I'm reviewing and listening to an album on the same device. And its not Bernie (my Macbook.)
For the past few years I've gone through a drought in the desert of good music. Now and then I'd get some solace with a handful of musical thirst quenching goodness but that's it. Searching high and low for the Oasis of real hip hop, only to find its a mirage of crap.
This year I must say with a few records being dropped I think I may have found my Oasis. Luda's Theater of the Mind although not his best came with some heavyweight tracks.
The Prodigal King Busta came like a bus after making us wait for the longest dropped a pre release mixtape with one of the best joints of the year - and then dropped one of his best albums. Only for us to hear that he's dropping ANOTHER record this year. Damn, son.
And now the Nasty Man of Hip Hop - Wu Tang's Raekwon drops this meteor on us
House of Flying Daggers reminds us of the Wu's love for Martial Arts and is in my opinion only allowed to be played on blast with the Bass Boost on. Played this on the Tube this morning and it rattled my ribcage.
"Usually we with bust n*ggas down with bats swell up their joints; elbows, wrists, their shins get cracked." The bass on this joint alone is enough to do that.
He reminds us of his calibre on "Cold Outside" where he's joined by Ghostface with a melodic hook and a more chilled out look.
With heavyweight joints like "Gihad" (where he gets nasty,) the Wu Tang inspired "New Wu" with Ghostface & Meth, "Surgical Gloves" and "Broken Safety" feat Jadakiss Raekwon's long awaited release has been well received in my household and I'm seeing loads of people like Noreaga, Lil Cease & Busta all Tweeting nothin' but love for 'Kwon's Masterpiece. The production on this is beastly. I don't think there's one track on this album that acts as a fill in like a lot of albums. Easily able to bump this from start to finish without any skips.
'Kwon, I salute you. I'm obliged to give 4 out of 5 wings for this one.
