I came across his Me Against The World in 1995 after I read that he'd dated Madonna. I also read that he was in prison and so being intrigued with him I grabbed the album and from that first listen I was in love. He lived that life he spoke of, it wasn't simply just being "cool." I then went and got "Strictly 4" and "2pacalypse" albums.
As a 15 year old he was completely different to where I grew up and what I knew as reality, but I could relate to him not feeling understood.
A year later almost to the day, All Eyez on Me came out in 1996 and to me his best album. And a few months later he released to me one of the best diss tracks ever made flagging his well publicised beef with Biggie; Hit 'Em Up which separated me and friends into who supported which side of the argument. As much as I loved Biggie and still do, I hold my torch for Pac. One of my fav tracks ever is No More Pain.
As a teenager, music like many of you was my way of finding myself and a way to escape my troubles. My love affair for Hip Hop was fuelled by certain albums. Busta's "The Coming" Snoop's "Doggystyle" and Pac's "All Eyez On Me" are (in no particular order) for me in that list.
I already posted California Love in an earlier blog so I will post "Aint Mad Atcha"
Tupac Amaru Shakur died on September 13th at the age of just 25.
I love and miss him.
