After his sudden death yesterday, I thought I'd post a video.

Boyzone is a cheesy boyband from the 90's, but in some ways I kinda liked them.

Our condolences to Stephen's partner, family, band members, friends and fans.

2009 MOBO Awards *sigh*

So after much deliberation I thought I would watch and blog the MOBOs. We know all the conversations surrounding the event, its credibility etc. and have myself been in numerous conversations throughout the day regarding this.

Reggie Yates and Keri Hilson presented the show. We know and love Reggie well so its all eyes on Keri to see how her presenting skills are.

The show opened up with Tinchy on an almost Jesus like stance bringing out the well rinsed Dappy of N Dubz for a verse of Number One before dropping in what reminds me of Coldplay with the green strobes for a couple verses of you're not alone. Nice performance all round.

Reggie came out in a typically Reggie sharp suit and started the show off well and introduced Keri in a hot ass dress who threw to Peter Andre who will be presenting from backstage.

Best Newcomer: JLS (Presented by Laura Critchler and Beverley Knight)

So up next we have a quick Funky interval with Donae'o , Gracious K and the In the morning chick (sorry mind has gone blank) and she sang out of time to the instrumental. Tut.

Best R&B: Keri Hilson (Presented by the boys from Skins) picked up by Reggie so Keri can get on with her performance of her new track Energy. Thankfully her vocal was much better than at the BET Awards earlier this year, cos boy ... She then took it into Knocks You Down with Taio who sounds better than Ne-Yo lol. Shame guy. Nice performance I gotta say.

Best Reggae: Sean Paul (Presented by Reggie)

Best Album: N Dubz (Presented by Jessica Ennis) Bashy shoulda got that, f'real. KMT.

Next up we had the "wonderful" JLS miming. Aint gonna give them anymore column inches. How can you come there and mime? Bun them. I need love CPR? Nah loves. Ya need to sing live or don't flipping perform. You aint Timberlake. He does ten times as much as you and STILL sings live. Sit down.

Best Video: Beyonce (Presented by Amir Khan)
Bless him. Amir looked like a deer in the headlights. Lol. And the people booing at the video from Beyond acceptance speech? Er .... Why?! She can't hear you. Dumb!


Best Jazz Act: Yolanda Brown (Presented by Reggie) well deserved. She's a class act and a wonderful performer. Please support her as she's not signed and works so hard.

Next up Chipmunk, the pint sized rapper performed a medley of his tracks with Ironik. Was a little stiff and he could have done with a hype man just to get the crowd hyped more. Dancers were on point though and Chip's interaction with his dancers was aight still. But he looks stiff and uncomfortable.

Ironik filling in til Chip changed his clothes for Tiny Dancer was tedious to say the least. Sorry love. It was flat. Tiny Dancer was much better though. Chip saved my man lol. Still stiff up stiff up though.

Best Gospel Act: Victizzle (Presented by Keri) a good thing for younger kids to get to know God. Well deserved. Showing the shift in how this country takes in music.


Best Hip Hop Act: Chipmunk (Presented by Alexandra "hot blue dress and legs" Burke and Lemar) I was half expecting it. Although Kanye and Em's albums far outsold his album. Well done and that people voted for the UK acts. Not his biggest fan but well done all the same. He wrote his album and recorded during his A levels so props for that Chip.

The lovely, gorgeous in fact Kelly Rowland with David Guetta singing the well played Summer anthem When Love Takes Over. I think she had a couple timing problems at the beginning and her tuning was off, but I love her enough to forget that. Will always prefer her to Bey. Hands down.


Best African Act: Neke (Presented by Reggie)

The annual Kanya King self adulation bit. The reason London don't love the MOBOs is because you're not listening to the people that actually vote. Was so heavily reliant on brown nosing/genital riding the Americans to try and get ratings. We don't put up with any foolishness in London. THAT'S why you moved your awards out of the capital, sista. And probably also the money factor. But I'm gonna say you really need to fix up as you're rapidly losing the people this awards ceremony is supposed to be for.

War child got the BeMOBO Award for their work abroad looking after children who are used in conflict, many fighters. Well deserved. As a parent I fully endorse this charity.


Here we go. N Dubz. I had to mute my television for this so I can't give you commentary. They jar me NO end. Have never heard any of their songs all the way through. Very proud of that.

Best UK Act *sigh* N Dubz: (Presented by Naomi Harris and Katie Young)
This is the most I've heard these people in my lifetime. Who the eff are they? For real. I must be getting old because I really cyan tek these pickney coming on here like big people. Was surprised Estelle wasn't in the nominees? She's a lot bigger in terms of stature than most of the nominees.

Mr Hudson was up next. The first performance of the night I actually liked. He's good live although tonight he looks a little uncomfortable. Not sure if its cos of the awards or what.


Best DJ: Trevor Nelson (Presented by Jade Jacobs and Uno someone - rugby player?)

FFS. Who voted?! Nah man. I don't care who I piss off. Manny or Shortee shoulda WON! I think he gets it by default. Don't get me wrong Trevor is decent, but c'mon man. MANNY NORTE. And you should see what Manny was wearing. Will post a pic with this blog if I get one as he looked HOT. Shortee also is one of THE best DJs out there. These two know their craft. That proper pissed me RIGHT off.

Latoya Jackson came up today to introduce the Lifetime Achievement Award for my hero MJ. She looked so thin tonight. I hope she is eating. As many as I've seen now, I still shed a little tear watching this montage. Everyone there at the awards owes their careers to him. End of. If they don't cite him as an influence their lying.

Now to the musical tribute for MJ:

Started of with Shaheem. He melts my heart every time. He sung I'll be there and its evident he's having training as his voice is unbelievably stronger than when he was on BGT. Seriously blew away all the acts that performed tonight. Shame on you. Ha.

Diversity followed up with what can only be described as a powerful performance. True to their style and to MJ. Woulda liked to have seen the lean from Smooth Criminal in there. But you know what, can not fault them at ALL. Love them to death.

Next up Jermaine and his painted on hair (lol) to sing and this had me welling up a bit. Aint gonna lie. But he does remind me of that guy in the kids show Lazy Town a bit. Hehe. Sorry *serious face*

Young Soul Rebels (all them 'urban' acts you get me fam) came out with their track for War Child. I hope they raise money, not feeling this tune though. With a choir? Er, why?

All in all it wasn't too bad. A lot better than I first thought it would be. The organisation was on point this time. They have realised they need to look to the UK and the talent. My problem is this bigging up mediocrity. We need to constructively criticise our home grown acts in order to improve the quality as we have a LONG way to go before we are where we should be. Thankfully they didn't ride too many US genitals and some of those acts didn't reach.

As far as I'm concerned, we need less of the N Dubz youts and more of the proper talent and we will then grow the awards properly.


All in all compared to the sh*t I saw for a number of years, this years' offering was a lot better. Still a long way to go now.

They now need to listen to the people that buy the music and actually vote and they may then be an awards show to be proud of.

Following on from Only God Can Judge Me earlier this week, I'm celebrating the life of Tupac Amari Shakur who died 13 years ago Sunday coming.

Here's one of the songs that to me was helping his integration into mainstream music, before his untimely demise. I was - and still am a huge Pac fan.

Pac has been dead almost 13 years to the day (13th of this month) and I still love his music - when I say that I mean the albums BEFORE he passed and not all these "unheard" tracks that keep popping up. Love and miss him.

This is MAD late, been writing loads and not had any time to log in and post. Hope y'all are okay?

Now you know I love my music, am a big Hip Hop head and have spoken before about my dissatisfaction with how the genre has taken in my opinion a torrid turn with too much commercial crap. I hate all this genital riding of the likes of Jay Z when he's a DECENT artist as opposed to one of the GREATS.

I have also spoken about my return to old stuff (pre 2001) in order to satisfy my hunger for real thirst for lyrical climax as there isn't a lot out there for me currently as I used to buy around 10 albums A WEEK. How many of you can really say you do that now? Cos I know I can't! Well, my wait is over. And again its because of the Justus League camp. Hoorah!

They have a spanking new mixtape called Reservoir Dogs (mixed by DJs Warrior & Skillz) which is a welcome assault to my little ears.

I gotta say after listening to this a few times now out on the road, I cannot wait for the Justus camp to tour back in the UK and also for any new offerings at the altar of Hip Hop.

And after following 'em on Twitter, I have to say they're a decent bunch of dudes. And a Happy belated Birthday to Chaundon who is probably recovering from his birthday weekend. Much love to the Justus camp.

Brandy dropped by her label

Following the release of her album last December, Brandy's sales have been slow to say the least. This has resulted in her being dropped by her label, Epic Records and rumours that she has also parted ways by her Management, ROC Nation.

Human, the album released back in December has only sold around 200,00 units.

Let's hope she finds another label and turns around her luck soon. x

What a week. Fond farewell to two great influences .....

Man I don't even know where to begin. Like you, I have been utterly shocked and stunned at the recent events of the past week.

Already at home depressed with a bad ankle, signed off for what seems like an eternity from work. Actually missing work, then I get the flu. (I'm hearing the swine flu jokes as I type) So by the time Thursday arrives, I'm already at my wits' end.

I hear about the tragic passing of Farrah Fawcett, who was a beautiful woman who finally lost her battle against cancer, which I think was really sad. She was a fighter and I pay the utmost respect to her and her family.

Then there is news on Twitter that TMZ are outside MJ's home as he's been taken ill with a suspected heart attack. My first thoughts for five minutes were "Nah, he'll be okay" it is then reported that he wasn't breathing before the ambulance got to his home, and knowing how these things are with sadly knowing people who have had heart attacks that this did not bode well at all and then realised he may not make it. As an optimist, I am also a realist which does piss people off.

That whole time, I'm trying to talk myself round and think that I'm being overly negative. This doesn't help when the more respected news broadcasters are not giving any information, denying or confirming anything. My heart beats faster as time goes on as the longer you don't hear anything, the worse the outcome usually is.

Then all of a sudden ALL of the broadcasters one by one confirm my suspicion (that word looks wrong?) was correct. And my heart sank. I know many people will think "You didn't even know him" and yes, they are more than correct and right for pulling me up for this, but in my own way, I DID know him. And so did you. I even shed a few tears and do not worry about how that is seen by anyone, as it was right for me.

From as long as I can remember much like a lot of you reading this, I have heard Michael's music. Jackson Five brought the funk. Michael's young voice sounded like a mature man's. So much soul for someone so young who had their whole life ahead of them. Ben always brought a tear to my eye and a lump in my throat and always will. One day in your life has taken on a whole new meaning now. Blame it on the Boogie is just too good, I was at work recently making my own entertainment to it, with the boys thinking I was crazy, but not caring one iota. Cos I was in the moment.

Everyone has their own dance to I want you Back when it comes on in the shop, bar, or club. Off The Wall was just for me brilliant. I didn't get to listen to the whole album until an early teen, but it is something that I still listen to now and find something new to be in wonder at. Billie Jean is one of my favourite tracks of all time. Period. The birth of the Moonwalk. Nuff said. I remember Trevor McDonald reporting it on the Ten O'Clock news that I was allowed to stay up and watch them show it.
The next few days I tried to master it, and fell over repeatedly trying to get it right. Everyone has a moonwalk story.

Thriller. Learning the dance as a kid. Laughing when MJ's face changed and he looked like a zombie. Every single time. To this day. Doing the dance break at college for our Performing Arts end of year show. My son learning it now as he thinks its one of the best dance routines, ever.

Bad. Now come on. I thought I was bad anytime that tune came on. the face, the attitude, the moves. If you say you didn't then you're a liar. The joke is a couple months ago I used to have a race with lil man and everytime I won, I got to the finishing point, grab my crotch (sorry Mum) thrust then kick my foot before Moonwalking over the finish line. My nine year old suddenly turns into Mike when Bad comes on and he obviously wasn't around in that era. Hello.

Smooth Criminal is another of my all time MJ tracks. *smh* the lean. I don't even have to tell you how groundbreaking that was. And still is. The stairs coming down and him thrusting on it as it fell to the ground. the epic 10 minute video. Another exclusive on Top of the Pops. There was no MTV exclusives in those days. EVERYTHING was premiered on TOTP. My son doesnt even really know about TOTP. Kudos to that show as it was another phenomenon of our generation.

I could spend the next few DAYS going through his catalogue but I'm sure you know all of it and love it equally. My head still cannot get around the wealth of music - some of which is over 30 years old now that it is still fresh and exciting enough that our children are listening and taking on board and LOVING. How can that happen? Its only since growing up that in my teens I learnt the actual words of half of his songs. I put this down to 1. being too excited and into the music I sang like most children do what I thought MJ was singing (lol) and waiting for the 'hee hees' and 'ow's' and 2. his falsetto being at times indescriptive. Raggo. I love the guy, but at times I didn't understand him. (I love you Michael lol)

Am not going to sit her like many people have and spout foolishness about watching this or that show, cos I didn't. I was born in 1980 and those American shows/awards did not air here in the UK. We didn't have any satellite until the 90s. And it was only then that I got to see these things and then catch up on things I missed out as a kid. There was no YouTube, Google et al them times, yuh si mi. Yeah, I'm old but I don't care. I am old enough to have seen the videos and hear the songs on the radio first hand and for that I'm truly grateful.

None of this can truly encapsulate how I feel as loss is indescribable.

I'm just sad. I'm sad that he left unexpectedly, but like all greats no time would be any better. I'm sad that he was such a troubled soul from such an early age. I'm sad that it now transpires Jordy Chandler waited until Michael's passing to come clean about lying all those years ago, toppling that first domino that culminated in the end result of Michael's death late Thursday night. I won't tarnish this blog by saying anymore than that at the moment. I'm most of all sad that you are all sad.

I cannot stand how the likes of 50 Cent had a whole mixtape within hours. Or Diddy and the bag of people on the tribute track had a track down in less than 24 hours. Fine, they aren't making any money but honestly if say Heaven forbid one of your relatives died and someone had say arranged the funeral for you or asked you about funeral arrangements within 24 hours of them passing, what would you do? I felt that strongly about it. Not asking you to agree or disagree with me, this is my opinion.

No matter how much the stars of today deny it, their whole style IS Mike. From the way that they sing right down to their dance routines. There is no getting away from Mike's presence. He shaped the face of popular music forever.

I have decided that I will pick myself up mentally and not be sad anymore. With all his quirks, Michael Joseph Jackson strived for so long to make the world smile and dance, one person at a time. There are people in the depths of a jungle, or in a village in Africa, the amazon, even in a desert. Go and ask them who the King of Pop is and you KNOW they will look back at you and tell you 'Michael Jackson' So continue as you have to turn off the television filled with negativity and turn on your stereos, computers and blast out your tribute to an amazing man who had such a big heart. It was that heart in the end that finally took him. He died of a broken heart.

I wish all of you well at this time and hope that you can come to some coping mechanism. I would love to go somewhere public on his birthday and just dance. What do you think?

You know by now I have one quote I use for everything and I'm gonna bring out out again as I feel it is fitting. "Give light and the darkness will disappear itself."


Farrah please now rest in peace, you are now free of pain and heartache. Much love to your family, friends and fans.

Michael, I truly do hope that you find peace and realise how much you impacted on the lives of millions. Your life was not in vain, and as my son said "your music will live on" You made the World dance, and for that I am eternally grateful.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and fans. x

I have to plug a good friend of mine DJ Bruce Wayne and his promo video.

Used to work with him as a guest on his show once a month back in the day and am a huge fan of his in general as he is a true DJ, not one of the CD DJ's. He can scratch and mix on vinyl.
